Today we took Abel to the snow for the first time, and I’m so excited to share the pictures! It’s something that’s been on our winter bucket list for quite a few months now, but between the holidays and his birthday we’ve just been too busy to get ourselves out of the house for a day trip. But this seemed like the perfect weekend.
We found a great little snow park right outside of Lake Tahoe called Adventure Mountain. It was great for little kids who aren’t ready to ski or snowboard yet, or families who just want to play in the snow without all the crowdedness and commotion of a ski resort. It’s just for sledding and playing. They had several different sledding hills and areas where you could just build a snowman, have a snowball fight, make snow angels, explore, or do whatever you wanted. Abel loved watching all the older kids go down on their sleds and I could tell he wanted to give it a try, but I told him he’d have to wait until next year. This mama bear just wasn’t quite comfortable sending her little bear flying down the slopes just yet.
It was so nice to get out of the house for the day and to get into the mountains. I love that we live so close to the snow, fresh mountain air, Lake Tahoe, and all things outdoorsy. As we were driving home, we were all exhausted and quiet — Abel was napping — and I just kept looking out the window at the beautiful mountain views thinking, “I love California.” I really do!
It was a little bit strange when we got home because the weather has actually been warm where we live (in the 70s), so we ended up stripping out of our snow clothes immediately and changing into shorts and t-shirts. In less than two hours we went from being bundled up in the snow to basking in the sun in our flip-flops — kind of odd, but just another thing I love about our location.
I hope you all had a good Superbowl weekend! We’re cozy on the couch relaxing and recovering from the busy day. Hmm … hot cocoa sounds good, no?
