A few weeks ago we found out the baby we’ve been so excited to welcome into our family will be a little girl! Since then I’ve been dreaming of and shopping for all things girly, from hair bows and dresses to Saltwater Sandals and fluffy, pink stuffed animals. It’s been so much fun!
Having a girl is going to be a little bit of an adjustment for us because we’re so used to Abel and all of his boyishness — trucks, airplanes, Legos, and just generally being in hyper-active destruction mode. Not that girls can’t be into all of those things, but you know, I’m just thinking I’ll get to revisit some of my childhood memories of Disney princesses, Barbies, and American Girl dolls. Hello, gender stereotypes. Oh well.
I can’t wait to see Abel as a big brother and Daniel as a dad to a little girl. I swear, she is going to have them both wrapped around her finger.
I’m definitely getting nervous about making the jump from one to two kids, though. I spend all of my day chasing Abel, playing with him, cooking for him, reading to him, setting limits for him (over and over and over again), and, honestly, some days I feel like I can barely manage. It doesn’t help that right now he’s going through the 18 month sleep regression (his naps have been awful and he’s been waking up at 4:30 a.m. every day for two weeks) and he’s been extra cranky and testing boundaries left and right. I just can’t imagine throwing a complete lack of sleep and a newborn who’s going to need to nurse every two hours into the mix. Words of reassurance, anyone? lol
I know we’ll figure it out and eventually fall into a comfortable routine, and there will come a day when I won’t be able to imagine life without our little girl. I’ve already been feeling her little kicks and twists for a few weeks now, which just makes it so much more real. I keep saying to Daniel, “She’s really in there!” He just looks at me like I’m nuts lol.
I already got our guest room mostly cleared out and the crib is arriving TODAY. Yay! I can’t wait to get her nursery put together and share pictures with you guys.
